Clay Habitat Resident Maker

Wardi

Hazelwood Grove Ceramics

As far back as he can remember, Wardi has always been making; his childhood years were filled with endless projects from making paper kites, Papier-mâché puppets, knitting & macramé to mud sculptures. After graduating with a Degree in Fine Art, his career took a different path in the Marketing & Advertising industry.

"Quite often I’ve been asked the question on what the inspiration is behind my work. The short answer is: I don’t really know. There is so much going on in my everyday life, that I simply store all these experiences and influences in a corner of my head; mostly unimportant and small in their own instances. However, they all become part of something I make….." — Wardi. Ceramics Artist

In 1995, an unplanned holiday in London led to Wardi meeting his lifelong partner. In 2015, they moved to Sanderstead, on the outskirts of Croydon, where they live a simple life – Handmade. Homegrown. Living A Life Less Ordinary.

Hazelwood Grove Ceramics is not just about Wardi’s ceramics – It’s about his organic and sustainable way of life. Together with his partner Ron, Hazelwood Grove maintains an orchard of homegrown fruits and growing seasonal vegetables, an apiary of at least 7 beehives, 10 ducks and 2 Sebastapol geese, 2 dalmatians and an amazing host of wildlife and birds.

In 2019 Wardi co-founded Clay Habitat with his friend and fellow ceramics maker Caroline.
